PR 4: Design and Wander

Big win for us solo-builders:

Planning is a PURE thinking activity. Its only goal is to make the product more lovable.

I’m not planning for the sake of agreement. I don’t need final (final final) documentation. I just design and wander in the direction of my plans—ready to stumble on magic.

I designed a product analytics data model this week that aims to give me high-signal feedback. The strategy is to define and store atomic events that can be aggregated into meaningful daily, weekly, monthly, etc. views. And now it’s time to build in that direction. The goal is to be able to leverage analytics in my iteration process for Caravan Notes. A pulse to measure quality and respond thoughtfully instead of relying solely on customer calls and guessing. My goal is to methodically make Caravan Notes a dearly loved product, especially by its users.

This week:

✅ I designed the analytics data model split into 8 event streams:

  • Note events
  • AI events
  • File events
  • Search events
  • Special-feature events
  • Session events
  • Subscription events
  • System health events

✅ Refactored and simplified payments + auth (works perfectly on all platforms 🥰)

✅ Began designing home page (not the landing page, this is the command center. the first screen of the app. I might rename home to command center 🤔 naming is a big part of UX)

Next week:

⏳ Build home page (command center)

⏳ Transplant and upgrade notes editor from v1

As I build I can’t help but acknowledge the brilliance of Jeff Bezos. Invent and Wander, the title of his book, is the mantra that keeps being whispered in my ears and giving me the feeling I’m on the right track. Invent and wander. Wander and invent. The Yin Yang of business purists. Design and wander is my humble version of it. But the name doesn’t matter as much as the activity. Design and wander. It’s the pulse of a happy professional life.

Until next week. Much love, Zaid
